Charging
Take your rooftop PV to work: charge peak production while parked at the office.
Direct supply makes your own solar power available at the office at lunchtime.
- Benefits
- EV batteries are activated for charging at lunchtime, even when you aren’t home
- Secure billing for employees charging on company premises
- Our Contribution
- We implement direct supply for charging points at work serving employees or guests
- Stakeholders
- Public and private employers
- Operators of public properties
Highlights
Let the sunshine in on your workday charging.
-
Cars should charge at noon.
The power system needs flexible storage to take advantage of regional generation peaks. This makes the most of existing power lines and reduces both electricity and system costs.
-
Enabling free choice of tariffs
Direct supply realises free choice of tariffs for electric vehicle drivers, regardless of the charging point.
-
Bring your own power.
Charge at work using solar power from your own roof and just pay for grid usage.
Problem
Millions of distributed batteries are roaming the streets – unused.
Only in single-family homes are we using the storage capacity of EVs to reduce the costs of mobility and energy. While millions of EVs are parked at work during the day, most do not charge using their own tariff. As a result, electricity suppliers cannot manage the storage in a targeted manner.
Solution
Free choice of supplier and tariffs, regardless of the charging point
- Electric vehicles can provide valuable storage capacity to the energy system.
- There is already more storage capacity driving on our roads today than the capacity of pumped-storage power plants.
- Charging under one’s own rate plan at the workplace enables the supplier to target the storage unit deliberately. Even during the day.
- Making the most of peak solar production.
- All the while, charging is not on the employer’s books:
- Free choice of rate plan, free choice of supplier, individual billing, no extra effort.
- We implement direct supply for your charging spots:
- Regardless of the base rate at the charging spot, vehicles charge with the supplier of their choice.
- Employees charge using the rate plan of their choice:
- For example, they can use a dynamic rate plan offering particularly attractive rates for solar power at midday.
- Employees with their own roof-top PV can also charge their vehicles at work using their homemade electricity
- and only pay for the use of the public grid.
- We improve our management of flexible storage in the vehicle,
- Through that we make more efficient use of existing battery capacity, make sure that we make the most of renewable energy generation, and reduce overall system costs.
Process
Direct supply is standardized, scalable, and suitable for both small and large fleets.
- Choosing locations
- You select the charging spots for direct supply; we verify the metrological requirements.
- Onboarding
- We coordinate access to consumption data with your charging infrastructure provider.
- Commissioning
- We coordinate the switch of your charge spots to the direct supply model with the local distribution system operator.
- Free choice of tariff
- In our mob1le.energy portal, your employees select their individual charging tariff.
- Authentication
- Employees identify themselves at all participating charging points, for example by using an RFID card, and charging sessions are reliably assigned to their respective tariffs.
- Billing and Data Overview
- On mob1le.energy, individual charging sessions and all energy and billing data are available at any time.
Stakeholders
-
For small businesses
Employees charge at work, but the electricity does not appear on the company’s books.
-
For large businesses
Employees use the charging infrastructure with free choice of tariffs. Commercial electricity rates for company facilities remain unaffected.
-
For highly regulated companies or municipal operators
Charging at work becomes possible without conflicting with internal consumption or specialised electricity rates.

Impact
-
More transparency when charging
The EV battery is managed directly. Your own supplier, your own rate, your own bill.
1 A single rate for your car to go. Not five different charging cards.
-
Cars should charge at noon
We need more flexible consumption to make better use of renewable generation. Charging affordably at noon also lowers overall system costs.
1,000 GWh of battery storage capacity is estimated by experts for 2030.
-
Accelerate the energy transition
Direct supply increases the availability of flexible storage in the power grid and helps us to make the most of increasingly scarce grid capacity today.
10 years is how long approval processes for transmission grid expansion have sometimes taken in the past. By improving the balance of flexible generation and storage, we make efficient use of the existing infrastructure.
