Power to Heat
Lose wind power, or use it.
We help to avoid curtailment of wind energy units by turning your heating storage tank into a wind power battery.
- Benefits
- Better utilization of renewable energy generation
- Our Contribution
- Activate existing storage
- Support the energy transition of the building stock
- Stakeholders
- Real estate companies, landlords, property managers
Highlights
Simple yet sensible
-
Activating the hot water storage tank of the heating system
Millions of heating systems have been installed. We activate them by storing wind energy in hot water.
-
Low effort
Remote-controlled immersion heaters can be retrofitted directly and with minimal effort in many types of storage tanks.
-
Reduce costs
A special electricity rate for the immersion heater as an installation supporting the grid brings costs down. Running your hot water on wind becomes economical.
Problem
Terawatt-hours of wind power are curtailed.
We do not specifically activate flexible electricity consumption at the local and regional levels and because of that we waste precious and renewable energy. This is not only a waste but also costs billions in compensation and redispatch. At the same time, we continue to burn gas and oil, for example for heating. The electricity curtailed, all the while, could provide hot showers for hundreds of thousands of people every day.
Solution
Immersion heaters running on a specific individual tariff turn curtailed energy into “wind showers”: Windduschen.
- Remote controlled immersion heaters provide the grid with flexible storage,
- exactly when and where it is needed.
- We install these immersion heaters in hot water storage tanks
- of existing gas or oil heating systems.
- This works in new and old buildings, as well as in single-family and multifamily homes.
- Millions of heating tanks in existing and new buildings can be turned into wind power batteries with an immersion heater that is switched on as needed.
- This is how we store wind energy
- as hot water for later use.
- Electricity consumption is metered separately
- and the immersion heater is supplied under a separate rate plan.
- Gas or oil is saved for later.
- Emissions are directly reduced.
- A new law makes this kind of electricity consumption particularly affordable.
- A kilowatt-hour of “wind-shower” electricity is cheaper than a kilowatt-hour of gas or oil.
- We classify the installation as a grid-relief system according to §13k EnWG
- according to the requirements of the Transmission System Operator, provide proof of grid relief, and enable direct billing of the immersion heater with pinpoint accuracy.
- This reduces the cost of heat,
- the consumption of fossil resources, and greenhouse gas emissions - all at the same time.
Process
The process is modular, scalable, and suitable even for large portfolios.
- Location scouting
- Identification of suitable buildings and heat storage units
- Installation
- Installation of immersion heaters and metering technology.
- Operational Responsibility
- Pooling and forecasting of available heating capacities. Control and billing during ongoing operation.
- Accounting Responsibility
- Processing of measured values in the virtual grid for complex metering points.
Stakeholders
-
For housing industry
The first step toward phasing out fossil fuel-based heating in the building stock (e.g., with Vonovia).
-
For energy suppliers
Innovative electricity suppliers provide their customers with wind-generated electricity, such as prokon. Green gas suppliers supplement their heating supply with wind power, thereby reducing the costs and emissions of their heating supply.
-
For municipalities and regions
In Schwedt and the Uckermark, we are implementing Windduschen with households, businesses, and housing developers.

Impact
-
Transition to renewable heat
with a direct impact on the building energy performance certificate.
0.0 is the primary energy factor for Windduschen electricity.
-
Supplementing gas supply with wind power
Wind heat integrates gas and wind power: cheaper, greener, more attractive. We work with you to expand your offer to gas customers.
€25/MWh is the price for “Use it or lose it” Windduschen electricity as of October 2026.

Saving CO2
Find out how much you can save in your region.
−8.6t CO2 could be saved in 20 apartment buildings with immersion heaters in Aurich using Windduschen for one year.
